MISSION TEAMS UPDATE:
Help is still needed for the Osawatomie mission (interior house rebuilding). If you can help with the weekend work, please contact Bart Stuckey at 782-0120 for details.
The Agua Prieta, Mexico team will depart Friday night, May 23, and return Saturday, May 31. The trip roster is open, so if you’re interested in going, contact Harold TODAY. Next Mexico Team today, at 11 a.m. in room 107/109.

MONDAY EVENING BIBLE STUDY meets each Monday at 7 p.m. in the Library. This week’s reading is John 28:16-20, bring your Bible and join us.

THREE WEDNESDAY BOOK STUDY of Living Lutheran will continue this Wednesday, May 14 from 6:15-7:30 p.m. This book is suggested reading for all our voting members to the Central States Synod Assembly in June. Anyone is welcome to join in the conversation.

VBS PLANNING – We’re planning a magnetic time this summer at Advent’s VBS POWER LAB, “Discovering Jesus’ Miraculous Power.” For more information check out the Advent web page. WHY WEIGHT? has moved locations – Join us at “It’s A Grind” coffee shop off of 151st street near 169 Highway. The next meeting will be this Wednesday the 14th at 6 p.m. For additional information on this terrific group please call Rhonda Moehlenhoff.

NINTH ANNUAL MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT – The Jana E. Pinker Memorial Foundation and the JCCC Foundation are presenting this golf tournament Wednesday, June 18th at Prairie Highlands Golf Course in Olathe (14695 Inverness St.). MOWING AND TRIMMING NOTES – we’re looking for individuals to be included in our rotation. If you would be willing to share your time with us in this ministry only two days a year, pelase call the church office.

WEB TEAM OPPORTUNITY - Would you like to share your talents with the Advent Website Team? If you have experience with websites, have been a webmaster, are an IT person, and have good writing or journalism skills or design skills, we want to talk with you! Please contact Wendy at church. 

THE DRAFT SOCIAL STATEMENT ON HUMAN SEXUALITY is now available online at www.elca.org/faithfuljourney. There are no recommendations for changes to the ELCA policies in this document, which is intended to be the first step toward an approved Social Statement. Watch future bulletins and the website for upcoming opportunities for conversation.

PLEASE NOTE that we switch to our Summer Worship Schedule over Memorial Weekend. May 25th (two weeks) we shift to 8:30 and 10 a.m. services on Sunday mornings and 7 p.m. on Thursday evenings.

PASTORAL NOTES – Pastor Roger will be meeting with our new vicar, David Ludwick this week in Gettysburg. The following week, he will take a week of Continuing Education at the Festival of Homiletics Preaching workshop in Minneapolis. Pastor Susan will be taking sabbatical time this summer and will be working on a new book through June and July. Please keep them both in your prayers as they are renewed and refreshed through these activities.

SCHOLARSHIP UPDATE – As we prepare to mark graduations (and ordinations!) we are mindful of the increasing numbers of Advent members who will be attending Lutheran colleges and seminaries next fall. Advent provides scholarships of $500/semester to collegians and $1000/semester to seminarians. Currently we expect to be supporting the following this fall:

Brent Fales, Sophomore – Bethany College, Lindsborg
Jonathan Herrera, Sophomore – Bethany College, Lindsborg
Beth Russell, Freshman – Midland College, Nebraska

Janice Hawley, first year – Wartburg Seminary, DuBuque
and our own intern, David Ludwick, Lutheran Seminary, Gettysburg

Our primary Scholarship fundraiser is the Dessert Theatre, which will be held next fall on Sunday, November 9. Mark your calendar!

IF YOUR CHILD IS GRADUATING from High School, college or graduate school this spring, and you haven’t already been emailed by the church office, please let us know. We’d love to share their successes with the congregation in the June Advisor.
