Fellowship Ministries
Vaudeville Night – This Spring event allows anyone with talent to
participate in a fun evening of entertainment. Previous VN's have
included a video exchange, performances by little ones learning their
instruments, magic acts, comedy and karaoke. Fun for all ages, and a
benefit for the Advent Scholarship Fund.
Jacob's Closet – This is a group that meets twice a month to piece
together simple but warm blankets for local and international
charities. No sewing skills are required - help is always needed
cutting, tying, and pinning. However, if you have them, bring your
sewing machine (and some extra denim needles), or some scissors -
everything else is provided!
Chili and Soup Suppers – are provided prior to midweek vespers services
by members of our Confirmation program. These Wednesday evenings occur
during Advent (Chili) and Lent (Soup) and begin at 6 p.m. in the
Fellowship Hall. Vespers begin in the sanctuary at 7 p.m.
Ash Wednesday Soup and Maundy Thursday Potato Bake Potlucks – are
congregational dinners which occur prior to our worship on these
special liturgical days. Everyone is encouraged to attend and bring
something to contribute to the meal. Both dinners are followed by
worship services.
Annual Palm Sunday Seder Supper – This is the traditional Jewish ritual
meal, prepared by the participants and shared on the evening of Palm
Sunday. Pastor Susan and Pastor Roger lead the commentary, giving the
Christian significance of this ancient commemoration. Reservations
must be made for this event, which can be done through the church
office. Older children and adults only.
Annual Theatre Outing – On the Sunday following Thanksgiving, we "kick
off" our Advent and Christmas activities by attending a matinee
performance of the Kansas City Repertory Theatre's outstanding
production of "The Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens. Sign up for
tickets on the kiosk during October and November, or contact the church
office for reservations. Group prices.
Holiday Progressive Dinner – Held around the first of December each
year, Advent members open their homes to host the appetizer and salad
portions of the dinner. The main course and dessert are held at the
church. Each participant is asked to bring a salad, appetizer or
dessert to share. Donations are taken to pay for the main course, and
white elephant gifts are exchanged after dinner.
Annual Dessert Theatre – This Fall event
is the primary fundraiser for Advent's Scholarship Fund, which
provides support for Advent students enrolled at Lutheran colleges and
seminaries. We gather first for some musical entertainment, offered by
members of our excellent Chancel Choir, as well as other talented folks
from the congregation. The evening concludes with dessert, served by
our scholars in an elegant cafe atmosphere. In addition, artwork
provided by members is on display for auction.
Golf Tournament – Twice a year (spring and fall), we host a golf
outing. Everyone is encouraged to participate. The cost for the events
covers expenses, with fellowship being the primary goal.
