Chancel Choir
Advent’s Chancel Choir is comprised of nearly four-dozen members who share their time and musical talent with our congregation and the community in many ways. Director of Music Tom Williams is the conductor; accompanist is Janelle Brockmeyer.

Opportunities for fun and fellowship abound in the choir! In addition to leading worship, their ministry includes presenting cantatas and special music during the Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter seasons, plus annual performances at the Area 7 Epiphany Choir Sing.

Although the choir participates in 'exchanges' with other churches in the immediate area, some of their most memorable performances have come during "road trips" to churches in other parts of Kansas. There, they have brought the unique Advent ‘sound’ to events ranging from fund-raising concerts to worship services - including one in which they introduced and donated Advent’s own Service of Joy liturgy to a 100-year-old congregation.

Some of our choir’s other special happenings have included: performing a leading American composer’s newest compositions for a Midwestern choral music convention, and commissioning a nationally-famous writer to compose an Advent-season anthem in honor of the group’s director and accompanist.

Peace! Hope! Joy!, the choir’s first CD, contains glorious music for the Advent and Christmas season. Their second CD, The Road to Alleluia, musically traces Christ’s journey from the Hosannas of Palm Sunday through the agony of Golgotha and, ultimately, to the Glory of the Resurrection! A third two-disc CD, Sharing God's Blessings: 25 Years of Music at Advent, was released to commemorate the church's 25th anniversary.

Director Tom Williams is a charter member of Advent. His passion for developing meaningful worship experiences has fueled the choir’s growth and continues to inspire full participation in worship by our congregation. Under his direction, members of the choir continually strive for new levels of choral achievement.

Rehearsals are held in the loft on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 throughout the school year. During the summer months, however, the choir takes a break and a "pick-up" choir is offered for those seeking a unique and challenging summertime experience.

Anyone eighteen years of age or older is invited to join. A formal audition is not necessary but the ability to 'carry a tune' is! Although some members of the choir did not even read music at the time they joined the group, all members share one thing in common: their LOVE for singing, fun and fellowship!
